At AxeFire, we specialize in empowering metal guitarists to achieve unparalleled speed, precision, and confidence through personalized 1:1 online coaching.
Hi there,

You've been playing for a while and something just isn't clicking for you right now.
Being caught between all of the work you've done so far, and all of the results you want to have, can be a deeply unsettling place to be.
The irony of practising more, when you feel uncertain about the "right" actions to take, is that effort you spend practising seems to take you further away from what you dream of one day playing like.
More effort should equal more progress, or so we think. But the effort that built the skill you currently have has not served to close the gap between your current abilities and what you believe deep down that you are capable of.
I understand this uncertainty because I have experienced every layer of it. Something within you knows you can be great but the practical questions of "what do I do?" and "how do I do it?" going chronically unanswered leaves one feeling like time is slipping by and like you're missing out.
We don't want to feel like we’re lazy, so we practice anyway, but the craft which once sparked joy has since become tainted with dread and despair.
Now suppose, for a moment, that you actually did know what to do and how to do it. Do you trust or believe that you would be able to actually handle this newfound power? Or that you would see it through and actually put in the work required to play the way that you want?
There's a very real reason beyond "being too busy " (or anything to that effect) why people don't put their all into something, and that is: fear of failure. I don't just mean fear that it won't work out, because if it doesn't you will be in the same place you are now and nothing changes - nothing lost.
I mean that if it does work out - if you do achieve success and become the player you dream of becoming - then it hurts a lot more to fall from a high place than it does to fall if you never climbed in the first place.
Don't let the fear control your actions - whether it's fear of criticism, failure, or losing that which you worked so hard to achieve.
Do not let fear hold you back.
It's not about becoming bulletproof or immune to failure,
but rather it's about who you become along the journey toward all that you desire.
I understand that becoming the player you want to become might seem unattainable right now.
For example, you might feel locked up with tension when you play, and are unsure what or how to practice to help alleviate that tension and play more freely.
Or you might feel like no matter what you do, you always hit the same BPM ceiling with your alternate picking.
Or you might have no idea what the next most important thing to focus on would be in order to see the most meaningful progress in your playing.
These are all examples of problems one may face on their journey and it's important to know that any journey worth travelling will have challenges that teach you something about yourself and how to grow into a stronger, more resilient and capable individual.
The question is not "how can I avoid these challenges" but "am I courageous enough to put myself on the line and face these challenges in service of building something great for myself?"
I can't promise it'll be easy
But I can promise it'll be worth it.
Take the first step.

WORKING WITH A COACH
1.
Discover Your Starting Point

To reach the destination of your journey, you first need to know where you stand so that you know where to begin. For example, there’s no point in practicing string-skipping arpeggios unless you are first comfortable alternate picking through a diatonic scale.
2.
Establish Your Target

The purpose of your journey is to reach a specific destination. There is no amount of practicing that will help you hit a target that doesn’t exist. Before any action is taken, you will speak with your coach about becoming crystal clear on what it is that you want to achieve, and why it is that you want to achieve them.
Goals That Drive Success

3.
You don’t reach your destination in one stride, but by reaching a series of checkpoints along the way. Your coach will help you set a series of concrete, attainable goals to serve as stepping stones toward your bigger goals.
A Personalized Blueprint For Mastery
4.

In the digital age, it's not the lack of information that is the biggest obstacle to progress – it's how you implement the information and execute on it. Knowing everything won’t do you any good if you can’t consistently make it to the practice room. Your coach knows this and will be your biggest advocate for your progress by keeping you accountable and is available to support you through correspondence between sessions.
Your Partner In Progress
5.

Growth happens when we're uncomfortable. That's why, in order to see progress, you must be willing to take risks and be challenged - over and over. This is not always easy, and your coach is here to guide and support you through this process.
Meet Your Coach,
Christian Andersen
My name is Christian. I work with metal guitarists, helping them to realize their full potential by coaching on building technique and a strong mindset.
I am passionate about guitar technique because mine was disrupted by an experience of Focal Dystonia in 2016, which made playing almost impossible. I had two options: 1) give up, or 2) relearn how to play as a left-handed guitarist. I chose the second option.
Not only was I able to relearn how to play, but I was able to build up to 100% of my previous level of playing ability in less than 2 years.

It wasn’t easy, though: starting over after 15 years of playing and having already built a teaching/performing career was terrifying. I felt immense self-doubt, insecurity, and anger as I went through the process of re-learning to play from scratch. I continued to practice relentlessly, and learned to manage and understand my negative emotions as I built my technique back up, day-by-day. Some days were harder than others but I consistently practiced from a place of belief in the vision of me being able to play freely again. A few months went by. Then, something incredible happened:

I started making progress really fast.
It was overwhelming. I still had feelings of insecurity and self-doubt from time to time, but it was becoming largely offset by new, positive emotions of hope, joy, and gratitude.
So inspired by the rapid progress I made, I decided to help others build up their technique in the same streamlined way that I did–and AxeFire was born!
Going from 0-100% in such a short period of time opened my eyes to what is possible if one has the right methods, and a strong mindset fueled by belief in the unseen. This whole experience put my ego to the test, and I would not trade it for anything; the lessons I learned through this process have made me an infinitely better player, and a better person. It is my mission to inspire, empower, and nurture the development of other guitarists through my own example and experience.
What Sets Christian Apart From Other Guitar Coaches?
I rebuilt my playing from the ground up.
Having to start again as a left-handed player taught me what is required to progress quickly and efficiently, in terms of both practice methods and mindset. While I have formal training from Musicians Institute, I draw heavily from my personal experience when helping clients reach their goals.

I’m hands-on.
I believe that in order to make meaningful growth as a musician, there is an aspect of frequent interaction and guidance from a mentor that is priceless. I don’t believe that the “meet once per week, now go practice!” methodology works very well. There’s too much time in-between, and most barriers to progress lie in lifestyle/mindset, not in practice material/methods. We all need someone to keep us accountable and that is why I’m supportive of contact between sessions.
I call it like it is.
I am a kind person but I will not BS you. Your time is valuable, and your progress matters too much for me to be anything short of completely honest with you. Guitar coaching is for people that want to see serious results, and as your coach I take your progress just as seriously as you do.
